BSA

United Kingdom · Founded 1861

Birmingham Small Arms. Built rifles, then built the motorcycles that won the desert.

Heritage

BSA started as a munitions manufacturer during the Crimean War, pivoting to motorcycles in 1910. By the 1950s, BSA was the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. The Gold Star became the definitive café racer — the bike every ton-up boy wanted parked outside the Ace Café. BSA's collapse in the early '70s mirrored the entire British motorcycle industry: they couldn't or wouldn't adapt while Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki ate the market alive. What survived is a legacy of bulletproof singles and thundering twins that still define the vintage motorcycle aesthetic.
