Citroën

France · Founded 1919

French automotive weirdness elevated to art. Citroën built cars that defied convention and created new ones.

Heritage

André Citroën was a maverick who believed cars should be innovations, not iterations. The Traction Avant pioneered front-wheel drive and monocoque construction in the 1930s. The 2CV reimagined what basic transportation could be. The DS looked like a spaceship and had suspension from the future. Citroën's engineering arrogance often exceeded their financial resources, leading to multiple near-collapses. But the cars they built changed what automobiles could be.
